Outcome of Course

Part-Time: 2 ½ – 3 years

Blended Learning: A mix of online theory learning and practical. For the practical side, you can either use naturally occurring workplace verification (job cards, service report verified by the supervisor of manager) or demonstration of the completion of tasks at block courses as appropriate.

Intakes: Monthly basis from February through to November

Fees Free Changes – 2025
Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) Policy clarification

In 2025, there will be fees-free policy changes, and here is an outline of what this means for our apprentices and trainees, or anyone thinking about signing up.

  • Signed on before 31st January 2024: You will have your fees covered for 24 months unless your eligibility finishes prior to that as a result of you using up your full entitlement as per the original fees free policy.
  • Signed on in 2024 from 1st February 2024 onwards: You come under the “first year free” scheme and will have your fees covered upfront by the government until the end of 2025 unless your eligibility finishes prior to that as a result of you consuming the full funding as per the original fees free policy.
  • Signing on in 2025: You come under ‘final year fees free’ if you are eligible to receive it.

Prerequisite Requirements

Applicants must

  • Hold a NZ residency, permanent residency, or citizenship.
  • Be employed in the industry.
  • Have a supervisor holding a current EWRB practising licence of the same registration level or above.

Applicants must also hold NCEA Level 1 or equivalent;

  • 10 credits in Mathematics
  • 10 credits in English
  • 14 credits in General Science or Physics

 English Language entry requirement:

    Applicants must have sufficient competence in the English language to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English.

    This will be demonstrated by meeting the current NZQA requirements.

    Students aged 20+ years who do not hold the minimum entry requirements for a programme will be eligible to enrol as a student where their previous educational, work or life experience indicates that they have a reasonable likelihood of success. Students under the age of 20 who do not hold the required minimum entry requirements for a programme may also be eligible to enrol in exceptional circumstances. Such decisions will be made by the Director/Head of School.
